Prepare for your trip!

A weekend getaway in Washington doesn’t come much easier, or more affordable, than our 2-Day kayaking and camping trip to Cypress Island. This outstanding San Juan island is entirely surrounded by a Marine Biological Reserve, and much of the forested uplands have been designated as Natural Area Preserves. This virtually guarantees the most outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities anywhere in the San Juan Islands, and the closest thing you can get to a wilderness kayaking experience in the Puget Sound area!

Washington State residents and officials saw the unique opportunity to preserve an outstanding natural area in the San Juan islands and began setting aside portions of Cypress Island back in 1923. Since then nearly 90% of the island has been acquired by the state and is designated as a Natural Resource Conservation Area. Consequently there are no full time residents here, and only a handful of small cabins which are mostly owned by long-time island families.

If you want to experience sea kayaking in the most wild, and least developed place in the San Juan Islands then we encourage you to join us on this fun-filled journey!

Like all of our overnight sea kayaking tours, the 2-Day trip is a fully catered event, complete with gourmet meals that are tastefully prepared by your guides. You won’t be going hungry on these trips either because we send out loads of supplies. Our philosophy is that the one thing that you are guaranteed to remember for years to come is how good the food tasted and whether you ate enough of it. With that in mind our meal plan goes far beyond the typical camping fare so often seen on these kinds of trips. Much of what goes into your meals is purchased from local Skagit county and Whatcom county organic farmers to ensure freshness and quality, and, when in season, virtually all of your salad ingredients are harvested just before your trip from our own Anacortes Kayak Tours organic garden!

Folks with special dietary needs will be pleased to know that we can accommodate almost any request. We have catered to orthodox kosher groups (we have a special kitchen set), vegans, vegetarians, gluten-intolerant people, vegan-intolerant people…you name it, we can handle it!

Except for a sleeping bag you will not need any camping gear on this trip either. We supply quality tents, Therma-Rest sleeping pads, and even comfortable camping pillows with pillow cases!

No dishes to do, no gear to clean after the trip, this kayak tour is the ultimate in “soft adventure”!

Because we are so keen on creating the best possible multiday kayak tour for our guests, we limit the group size to 10 people maximum, unless you are coming as a private group. We also limit our guide/guest ratio to a maximum of 6 guests per guide. This allows for a lot of personal attention for each member of the trip and maximizes safety.

Be sure to check out our Private/Exclusive multiday kayak tour option too! This is a great way for you to create a truly unique memory with your friends or family.

We specialize in small group, all inclusive, multi-day sea kayak trips in the San Juans.

  • On these multi-day sea kayaking expeditions we strictly adhere to a 6 guest per guide ratio. All trips larger than 6 people will have two guides.
  • Groups of 5 or more guests can choose to have a private kayaking experience!
    (multi-day trips only)
  • A small sea kayaking group can move much more efficiently. We need less time attending to logistical issues like setting up or breaking camp and have more time for exploring and having fun in the San Juan Islands.
  • All camping and kayaking equipment is provided, as are all meals, including lunches.

The longer multi-day sea kayaking expeditions are best suited for folks in reasonably good shape. Occasionally there is a need to make a long push to get to the next campsite and we would not want to wear anyone out on a long crossing. We actually design these trips to be a little more physically involved. 5 day trips might average 8-10 miles per day paddling.

Anacortes Kayak Tours reserves the right to change or cancel available departure dates and prices. Once you book a kayak tour with us we will run it, as long as weather conditions permit us to conduct a safe sea kayaking excursion.

On multiday kayaking trips we do have a minimum of two people to run the trip, this is a matter of safety, not economics.

Don’t hesitate to call us if you have questions or would like additional details on any of our trips.

I just wanted to let you know that the tour was everything your web site promised and more. We saw bald eagles, harbor seals, purple starfish, anemones, water, sky, interesting geology and more. We tasted two kinds of kelp, learned about tide runs, skipped stones into the ocean, and met a fascinating young guide. What a great day!

I wish you the best of luck with your business.

Sincerely,
Tim
