Kayak Tour Highlights

  • Paddling in the Orca Whale Sanctuary
  • Great wildlife viewing opportunities
  • Delicious meals!
  • Camping on remote island parks
  • Entertaining and knowledgeable guides

Departing from the west-side of San Juan Island, this multi-day kayaking adventure will take our guests on a classic sea kayaking route that originates near the town of Friday Harbor. We utilize the same launch site at the San Juan County Park as our popular Full Day kayak tours, so you’ll be paddling immediately into the federally proposed Orca Whale Sanctuary.

However, we’d be doing you a great disservice if the only thing that we were concerned with was providing you a chance to see the whales. This trip has so much to offer: fun kayaking through beautiful San Juan Islands scenery, rewarding wildlife encounters, delicious meals, and interactions with other interesting people enjoying the San Juans, are all part of this fun experience!

We are fortunate to have two wonderful “boat-in-only” campgrounds within a day’s kayaking from our launch site. Depending on weather, potential whale sightings, and the needs of the group, we’ll take you to either the lovely Jones Island State Park, or to Stuart Island State Park. Over the years we have found that most groups enjoy the trips better if we stay both nights in the same camp site, which allows for everyone to explore the area in unloaded kayaks on the second day. Of course if everyone is feeling really strong, and wants to put in some miles during their vacation, we can show you both islands!

*Please keep in mind that this is the most ambitious of our three-day paddling trips; if you're interested in a slightly more relaxed pace, enjoy your leisure time, or are traveling with children, you might consider our trip to the Cypress Island Reserve!

Both Jones Island and Stuart Island also offer opportunities to take a walk after you get off of the water. Jones Island has easy trails throughout the island that reward intrepid hikers with a variety of fantastic vistas. Stuart Island has a nice path leading out to the Turn Island Lighthouse and nice views into Canada.

Like all of our fully-catered overnight kayaking trips, this 3-Day adventure will be a gastronomic delight! Your guides take a lot of pride in providing delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners throughout your tour. Snacks and hot drinks are also provided whenever you like. All camping gear is provided too. Just bring your personal belongings and a sleeping bag and prepare to have a great time! (We have bags for rent if you aren’t traveling with one, just let us know)

We know that you have several good choices of outfitters offering this same itinerary. We encourage you to browse through our web site, read about our company, and see what we are all about. And we hope that you’ll give us a call!

We specialize in small group, all inclusive, multi-day sea kayak trips in the San Juans.

  • On these multi-day sea kayaking expeditions we strictly adhere to a 6 guest per guide ratio. All trips larger than 6 people will have two guides.
  • Groups of 5 or more guests can choose to have a private kayaking experience!
    (multi-day trips only)
  • A small sea kayaking group can move much more efficiently. We need less time attending to logistical issues like setting up or breaking camp and have more time for exploring and having fun in the San Juan Islands.
  • All camping and kayaking equipment is provided, as are all meals, including lunches.

The longer multi-day sea kayaking expeditions are best suited for folks in reasonably good shape. Occasionally there is a need to make a long push to get to the next campsite and we would not want to wear anyone out on a long crossing. We actually design these trips to be a little more physically involved. 5 day trips might average 8-10 miles per day paddling.

Anacortes Kayak Tours reserves the right to change or cancel available departure dates and prices. Once you book a kayak tour with us we will run it, as long as weather conditions permit us to conduct a safe sea kayaking excursion.

On multiday kayaking trips we do have a minimum of two people to run the trip, this is a matter of safety, not economics.

Don’t hesitate to call us if you have questions or would like additional details on any of our trips.

I just wanted to let you know that the tour was everything your web site promised and more. We saw bald eagles, harbor seals, purple starfish, anemones, water, sky, interesting geology and more. We tasted two kinds of kelp, learned about tide runs, skipped stones into the ocean, and met a fascinating young guide. What a great day!

I wish you the best of luck with your business.
